moving your site
KB301001
If your not sure how to transfer your website from your current hosting company we would be happy to do it for you.

While many companies charge you to move your site, we dont't. If the site transfer takes less than 1/2 hour you are billed nothing. If the transfer time will be longer than this we will communicate the cost PRIOR to doing anything.

You can save valuable time and money by letting Rolet's technical experts handle your website move. We will ensure that your files and functionality are the same as they were prior to the move.

Most transfers are seamless. To ensure this our technical experts will get a temporary site up and running for you PRIOR to making the switch. Once you have deemed the site operational we will begin the process of
changing name servers. 95% of the time we can transfer your website and domain in less than 24 hours.

We would rather have your business than charge you to get it.
windows or linux
KB301002

If you want to develop in ASP.NET, ASP 3.0 using a MS SQL 2000 or MS Access database then Windows 2000 or 2003 is the best solution. MySQL is also supported on our Windows servers..

If your not sure let us know and we will recommend a platform based on your needs.
what is a mb?
KB301003
1 Mb of disk space is equivilant to approximately 15-20 medium (50K), web-size photographs in a typical photo gallery.

1 Mb of bandwidth is used by downloading each one of the photos. The thumbnails page also uses storage and bandwidth. The total amount of bandwidth used to download this page is 1Mb.

A typical MP3 is 3-4 megabytes. A 3 Mb MP3 will use 3 Mb of diskspace on the server. Each time the 3Mb song is downloaded will use 3Mb of bandwidth.

Examples: 1K Image | 50K Image | 50K PDF
changing dns
KB301004
what do you mean by "changing name servers"?
Change Name Servers simply means you want web hosting, but you already have a domain name. You do not need to transfer your registrar to us. All you would need to do is change your DNS Servers for your domain name to ours:

Primary DNS: ns1.rolet.com (208.29.194.2)
Secondary DNS: ns2.rolet.com (208.1.216.2)

If you want to keep your own DNS Server, you may do that as well. You would then have to point your HOST Record to your new IP that we assign you when you order.
frontpage
KB301005
do you support microsoft frontPage extensions?
Yes, all of our shared hosting plans on a windows server support frontPage extensions.
databases
KB301006
which databases do you support?
Depending on your hosting platform we support MySQL, MS SQL 2000, MS SQL 2005 and MS Access
ssl certificates
KB301007
Each of our servers has a shared SSL Certificate. Depending on your shared hosting plan you may use this to secure your applications without purchasing one on your own.

Your address would be similar to:

https://secure3.rolet.com/yourbusinessname/

To use your own SSL Certificate you need a plan that provides a dedicated IP address. The rdeveloper plan and above includes a dedicated IP. If you're on any plan below this you'll need to upgrade to our Standard Plan.
aliased domains
KB301008
what are aliased domains?
Aliased domains are domains names other than your primary domain name. Users can enter a different domain name for your website that will take them to the same location as the primary domain name.

Primary Domain: yourbusinessname.com
Aliased Domain: yourotherbusinessname.com

The above example shows the primary domain and a aliased domain; both pointing to the same location.
combined usage
KB301009
what is combined usage?
All of our shared hosting plans with the exception of the flex Rate, come with a preset amount of diskspace and bandwidth. The preset amounts are available for use within every aspect of your website (not including email).

Ex: If your on our business plan, any diskspace or traffic used within your database or multi media portion of your website would be lumped into your total amount allowed for that plan. We provide seperate diskspace and storage for applications provided in your shared hosting plan.

rebooting
KB302002
My server has locked up, will you reboot it?
Yes, we will. And at no extra cost.

Before performing a soft reboot (if possible) we will attempt to connect to it from a console so the server can be shutdown gracefully. If this attempt fails we will then perform a soft/hard reboot.

We cannot be held responsible for any data/hardware loss that might occur during a soft/hard reboot.
i need more ips
KB302003
Additional ips may be purchased with proof of current ip allocation.
capped bandwidth
KB302004
will you shutdown my bandwidth if i go over?
We do not cap bandwidth for any of our hosted solutions. Via our
client interface you will be able to view real-time network usage. If your monthly bandwidth goes over the amount provided you will be billed at the rate specified for your plan.
dns manager
KB302005
do you provide a manager for my domains?
Yes, via our client interface you have the ability to add zones to our primary and secondary name servers:

Primary DNS: ns1.rolet.com (208.29.194.2)
Secondary DNS: ns2.rolet.com (208.1.216.2)
colocated
how do you need it
KB302006
where and in what shape should i send the server?
The server can be shipped to our NOC address or dropped off at this location during normal busniess hours.

The server should be pre-configured for our network using the settings provided.
dedicated
when can i get it?
KB303001
We custom build our dedicated servers. Normally we can build the server the same day, perform our certification test and have it up and running by the next day. This time might be extended if your server has special hardware requirements that need to be ordered.

If you opt for a ready to go server; it will be ready the same day (assuming the server has the desired operating system presently installed).
